Main and front landing gea-USA Aircraft Group Corporation
Date: 2025/3/11
The main landing gear and the front landing gear play different roles in the aircraft, and the main differences between them are as follows:Location and function
Main landing gear: usually located near the center of gravity of an aircraft, it is a key component that bears most of the weight of the aircraft. The main landing gear plays a supporting role in aircraft parking, taxiing, take-off and landing, and is equipped with shock absorbers and brakes to absorb the impact energy during landing and slow down the taxiing speed of the aircraft.
Front landing gear: a ground support component installed under the nose of an aircraft that mainly plays a guiding role in addition to supporting a small number of gravity loads. The pilot can steer the plane while taxiing on the ground by manipulating the steering mechanism of the front wheel.
II. Structure and characteristics
Main landing gear: relatively complex structure, usually composed of multiple components, including struts, tires, brakes, shock absorbers and so on. In order to reduce the impact of aircraft landing, the main landing gear is usually equipped with high-performance shock absorbers, such as hydraulic shock absorbers.
Front landing gear: the structure is relatively simple, but it also includes front wheels, struts, shock absorbers, steering gear and other components. The shock absorber strut of the front landing gear is usually oil-gas type and is equipped with a cam to ensure that the front landing gear can be automatically set to the neutral position when it is lowered.
In general, the main landing gear and the front landing gear work together to ensure the safety and stability of the aircraft on the ground.
